A little of everything

This is an advertisement I made for design for advertising, it is for blue star ointment. This product is pretty cool only because it can cure anything skin related....... This ad is suppose to appeal to the more socially conscience person who keeps up with the government propaganda, also poking fun at the stimulus package. The distorted building is suppose to represent the confusion and misunderstanding in our government..... yes this is an advertisement promoting the "against the man" attitude, and is cheesy. Something I would have done a little different is adding a subhead with a catchy phrase that would appeal to the people that don't care about what happens in the government, allowing a rebellious appeal to the ointment.

My design for advertising class has taught me a lot about the advertising world, and it is scary. In this class the emphasis is on ads in magazines mainly, teaching us about psychographics and demographics, getting us designers to think like snakes, and to make people buy a product they "need" to solve their "problem".  Now going back to when I said this was scary; everyday we are pummeled subconsciously by these advertisements, if we like it or not, our subconscious is soaking all of it in, making us desire these materials we don't actually need. My teacher put it this way "the traveling salesman knows how to sell products because that's his job, so he is a snake, you designers are not seen so you are like the snakes skin. Still drawing people in and cleverly selling a product but not talking to them face to face". Subliminal messaging, this is the stuff your conscience will not catch, that when you see the object it will make you feel a certain way.

I am a Christian, and proud of it, but when I say reducing how much media you take in will help you, I honestly mean it. This goes for anyone with any religious background; You will feel better, think more clearly for yourself, and you become more aware of the traps the world sets for you. For us Christians media reduction and being aware of when your mind is collecting is so important; the movies watched, the music that we are listening to, the magazines we read. I know this has been said time and time again, and I am not saying that all of this is bad in fact movies, music, and art are basically my life; but it is important to not fill your mind (one of Gods greatest gifts to you in my openion) with junk.

To end here is a Bible verse to think about.....
"19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies."

1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Side note: I enjoy what I do in fact it is what I think I am called to do is design, I did not say all of this to make you despise graphic designers, we are only doing our job. Thanks for reading.
